Arsenal Vs West Ham United: Predicted starting XI – Injuries no more
Front Three
This is perhaps the easiest unit in the team to predict, and even then it is far from certain what Unai Emery will do. Mesut Ozil is now back in training, but I would be surprised to see him thrust straight into the starting XI, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles may feel slighted if he were to miss out.
But other than that, Emery does not really have many more attacking options that the following trio: Alex Iwobi played in behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. It is an attacking triumvirate that has worked nicely in the past, but it also illustrates the dependency that Arsenal have on their two starting centre-forwards.
Emery has sometimes dropped Lacazette to the bench, but if he were to do that here, he would have to play with Maitland-Niles or Ozil on the right wing with Iwobi shifted to the left. I am not so sure he will want to do that. And it is about time that Lacazette has given a run of starts. He deserves that much.
This might be the most interesting team selection of the season. We don’t really know what Emery thinks his best XI is. It was too soon in September and October to draw proper conclusions and November and December were decimated by injuries. This could be an extremely telling selection. I will be very interested to see what team Emery chooses indeed.
