Arsenal vs Chelsea: 5 key players in yet another necessary match
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are fading from top four hopes, but a win against Chelsea would turn things around. Here are 5 key players to achieve that victory.
Not many fans are finding a lot of confidence in Arsenal right now. Both in the present, and looking into the future, there is turmoil. The club is broke, the results aren’t coming lately, and the hopes of finishing in the top four and getting that necessary financial boost that comes with, are fading.
But that can all change with a conclusive win (or even a scrappy win) against Chelsea. And, conveniently, a lot of the injury woes that the club has been suffering from have been lifted. The list of unavailable players has shrunk from damn near double digits down to four, and all things considered, Unai Emery will have all the necessary tools to take three points from this one.
With all that being said, let’s talk about the players that will need to step into the spotlight and play to their best in order to ensure the win.
We start where we always do, with No. 5.
5. Hector Bellerin
I really, really don’t like Chelsea, but no matter my personal feelings, I always have to admit that they have two stellar fullbacks in Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. You talk about versatile, they defend and attack incredibly well, and in a balance that makes them to ideal tandem.
Which is problematic for the Gunners, because one of the few consistent positives I have found in our club this season is that, when the wingbacks are unleashed, the attacking prowess is multiplied.
That said, facing the fullbacks of Chelsea will challenge the likes of Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin. I include the latter on this list, rather than the former, because Bellerin has more work cut out for him. Alonso is the superior attacker between the two Blue fullbacks, and he always seems to give Bellerin fits on their shared side.
Meaning that, if we want to get the advantage in this one, Bellerin will have a big part to play. I have faith in Kolasinac’s ability to put the other side under pressure (at the very least) but just returning from injury, we really need Bellerin to do the same.
On to No. 4.
