Arsenal: This is a good time to remember that money isn’t everything
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal fans are rather upset that their club is somehow broke, and thus incapable of signing any big-time solution, but don’t forget that money isn’t everything.
I have been right there with the other Arsenal fans out there griping about why our billionaire owner can’t give us even a fraction of what the other top-six clubs are getting. It seems woefully unfair and borderline criminal.
It’s just further reinforcement that this club will never be able to compete financially with these other clubs that are seeing hundreds of millions (or billions, in one case) thrust into the coffers to be used on the best players available. That is, at least for as long as Stan Kroenke is in charge.
Call it a sustainable method, call it whatever you want, the point is, there have to be ways around the lack of money, and that’s when I start to find myself calming a bit. Because money isn’t everything.
The Gunners do generate a good amount from sponsorship packages and deals and the big pay day will be kicking in this coming summer with the new deal with Adidas coming through in the clutch. But even that will never allow the Gunners to match the likes of Chelsea, United and City in the spending category.

And frankly, that doesn’t bother me as much as it did in the throes of my Gooner anguish this holiday period.
Because I think back to last summer and what was able to be accomplished with £50m. Just a cool £50m, which isn’t a lot of money in the grand scheme, was able to get us Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis. Also known as the reason why our midfield can be the best in England and why our defense isn’t completely hopeless.
All with £50m.
Meaning that, even if the Gunners only get £60ish million this summer, they can do a hell of a lot with that money, probably more than any other club could do with it. And it may not be flashy or inspiring right off the bat, but neither was Guendouzi and Sokratis, and it’s safe to say they are pretty much adored at this point in their North London careers.
Now, with Sven Mislintat officially leaving the club, maybe this is the wrong time to make the case against overspending, but let’s see what the club can do with the resources that are available this summer.
