Arsenal: 5 reasons to fall in love with Ivan Perisic transfer
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal fans are somehow split on the idea of Ivan Perisic joining the club, but here are five reasons why this is a move to fall in love with.
David Ornstein has spoken, and Arsenal are linked to Ivan Perisic, supposedly in talks to bring the Croatian attacker in on a loan move with option to buy at the end of the season for a fee of £35m. All things considered, I thought this would be a unanimously celebrated move, but as always, I have been left wanting.
Fans are right to clamor about the state of the defense, but forget not that we have been wanting a winger for longer than I care to remember, and the versatility of Perisic slaps him into the club as more than just a winger.
Obviously we’d love to see a move for a defender too, but the trope holds that it is hard to do really good business in January, which is why I’m simply gushing over the idea of Ivan Perisic coming to the club in such a capacity.
Sure, there are questions to ask, if he does make the move, but the positives far, far outweigh the negatives. There are so many reasons to fall in love with this move, and I am here to walk you through five of them.
We start with No. 5.
5. Security built-in
Unai Emery made it clear what kind of moves Arsenal are limited to this January – loan moves and only loan moves. Nothing else will do because the club is temporarily broke.
After the initial shock of the club being broke, it actually dawned that a loan move would be the best thing for the club, which is currently in transition. Give these players a test run and see if it works out. If not, you are under no obligation to buy them.
Thus, the security is built in to the Perisic move. If he doesn’t work out, we don’t buy him. Also, for those concerned about wages. If we can’t line up buys for Mkhitaryan and Ozil in the summer, then we also don’t have to buy Perisic and add to the wage bill. No big deal.
On to No. 4.
