Arsenal: 5 reasons to fall in love with Ivan Perisic transfer
By Josh Sippie
2. He’s not blocking anyone
I’ve seen people griping about how they would rather recall Reiss Nelson, or let Emile Smith Rowe take the reigns, and that’s all well and good. We’d obviously all love to see youngsters able to hold down the fort.

But think big picture here. Ramsey is leaving. Ozil and Mkhitaryn should be leaving. You’re bringing in Perisic to replace one of them, because, spoiler alert, he’s just one guy. He is one winger. You need more than that. Meaning that what if I were to tell you that Perisic, Smith Rowe and Nelson are going to replace Ramsey, Ozil and Mkhitaryan.
Sounds better when you think about it like that, doesn’t it?
Besides, there is nothing guaranteeing that Smith Rowe is ready right this moment. Even Nelson still has to come back and prove himself.
Unai Emery has shown that he will favor his youth players over anyone. Meaning that Perisic is the perfect age to give us a couple years in his role and then pass it off to the next guy. Maybe that can be Bukayo Saka, or maybe Nelson or Smith Rowe still need some time and Perisic can cover for them.
There is no blockage here. Because the role is wide open.
Finally, my favorite, No. 1.
