Arsenal have their problems, no one is going to deny that, but given the situation at hand, it’s still perfectly reasonable to shrug and say “give it time.”

You all know what they say the easiest job in the world is? The easiest job in the world is following up the best manager in Arsenal Football Club history after his 22 year reign in which, at the end, he made some questionable decisions and left the club in a bit of a dire strait – mostly financially.

That is the easiest job in the world. Right? Just like it was the easiest job in the world to follow up Sir Alex Ferguson in the exact same situation.

Only it isn’t. It’s one of the hardest jobs, not least of all in the world of sports. To follow up that kind of legacy, to step out of the shadow cast, it takes time. Now, Manchester United probably didn’t go the right route. They are still trying to figure out a way to recoup the glory that Fergie consistently took them too.

Arsenal, however, took a better route. They put the right people in charge of finding replacement, someone who is going to take the club in the direction we were practically begging Wenger to take it – to modernize it, to emphasize it.

It’s looking like Unai Emery actually did himself a disservice by going on that 22-match unbeaten run, because the struggles that are always going to happen, that were bound to happen, were delayed slightly while fans got a bit out of control with their expectations.

Now, here we are in a transfer window, with no money (at no fault of Emery’s), largely thanks to an overpaid superstar (at no fault of Emery’s), a broken wage structure (at no fault of Emery’s) and numerous players that just don’t fit in anymore (at no fault of Emery’s).

I’ve said this before, and I’ll probably be saying it next season too – you have to give Emery time to weed out the problems at the club before you judge him for not being able to.

So yeah, when people take jibes at the club, you don’t have to make excuses about being broke, or Stan Kroenke. All you have to say is “it takes time.” That’s really it.

Maybe, if they’re extra annoying, throw in an “idiot” in there too. Just for good measure, you know?
