Arsenal’s quest for wingers has taken them back to Leandro Trossard who, now more than ever, does the deed that needs doing.

Arsenal‘s primary concern for the foreseeable future is going to be the gross lack of chances created. With so many creative attacking midfielders on the club, you wouldn’t think that would be a problem, but lo and behold it is.

Their linear attacking play frequently derails and with no wingers on the club, everything falls apart and the strikers, that world class duet of goal-scoring brilliance, is left alone.

Going into the summer, priority No. 1 is a new winger. Reiss Nelson is coming back and that’s wonderful. Bukayo Saka looks great and will look even greater in time, but more importantly, and investment is required so that we can put a goal threat on the wings and add more dimensions to a suddenly stale attack.

Enter Leandro Trossard, one of those rare talents that managed to keep his head and stay in a smaller league while he developed, rather than selling out and moving to Bayern Munich or Real Madrid and getting buried.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Trossard, now 24, had reached the stage of his career where he needs a next step. He was linked to the Gunners last summer as well, but a lack of cash prevented the club from sealing the £22m move and, according to Trossard’s agent, Arsenal was very much in favor of him staying at Belgian club Genk for another year.

In that year, or at least thus far into the year, he has notched 17 goals and eight assists in all competitions for the club, proving what many already assumed – that he is, in fact, ready for next-level football.

Trossard’s agent also made it pretty clear that the Gunners were a preferred destination, specifically over Tottenham, which is always nice.

This club being broke is a fate that still baffles many fans, but it may work out perfectly with Trossard, as it allowed Arsenal to seemingly work more into his career path, giving him more time to solidify himself, and now, he would be coming over ready-made, all set to make the difference that we need from a winger.

And since he is 24 and still in Belgium, he still kind of qualifies as “under the radar.”

It’s a move that should appeal to all parties. He’s relatively cheap, he has a solid foundation, and he’s a goal threat if ever there was one. And now we wait.
