Arsenal: Ever Banega to replace Aaron Ramsey? Lol
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal probably need to replace Aaron Ramse, but the options on the table most certainly do not include Ever Baneg, so expel that thought right now.
Two ‘firsts’ are happening right now. The first first: I am actually talking about Ever Banega coming to Arsenal to replace Aaron Ramsey. The second first: I used “Lol” in an article title and everyone can just get over it.
The very idea that Ever Banega – Ever Banega! – can replace Aaron Ramsey is about the craziest thing I have heard since… well, since Gilberto Silva said that Lucas Torreira isn’t good enough, which wasn’t all that long ago, but the point remains – No, Ever Banega is not the guy that we need to replace Aaron Ramsey.
The thing with the Gunners current state is that they’ve had to be creative in the transfer market. Buying a seemingly over-the-hill Sokratis, picking up Stephan Lichtsteiner for free, bringing in Denis Suarez on a loan.
It’s all very penny-pinchy. Because they’re broke, y’know? But that doesn’t mean that this broke-as-a-jokeness is going to carry on into this summer. In fact, we know it isn’t, because we for sure get at least the money from the Adidas deal, which will allow us to spend a good deal approaching the needs of the club.

Replacing Ramsey is certainly going to be a need, but not even Unai Emery and his camaraderie with Banega is going to realistically thing that he is the right replacement.
Now, let me be clear about something – I don’t mind Banega coming to the club. Not one bit. He’s a good player to have and I wouldn’t mind seeing him step into the Mohamed Elneny role as a utility player to help us out in a pinch.
But Ramsey? Ramsey was a man of intuition, a hero around these parts. Banega can’t match that, he can’t replace that, and he’s too old to grow into the role either. He would be a desperation solution to the Ramsey void, and the last thing we need after having just lost Ramsey is to go inadequately replacing him.
Either go big, and sign someone like Adrien Rabiot, or go home… as in, use internal solutions to fill the role until you can go big. But don’t go half-arse. Please don’t go half-arse.
Again, I have nothing against Banega. Would love to see him at the club. But we can’t talk about him like he’s here to step into Ramsey’s shoes. Those are some really big shoes.
