Arsenal are already scouring for a technical director post-Sven Mislintat, and one potential option is like a double-up on Unai Emery.

The crew behind appointing a manager for Arsenal‘s new era elected to pick the guy who had taken Sevilla to new heights with limited resources and dabbled with superstars at PSG. It was a solid choice, and he exhibits all the things most fans wished they would have seen more of from Wenger – energy, a willingness to change, not being afraid to bench superstars.

But it wasn’t a paradise for those that appointed him. Sven Mislintat, who was part of the panel that search panel, has already left the club, and it’s hard to ignore the numerous reports that he just didn’t get on with Emery, mostly in the transfer market.

Still, when Emery was appointed, it was pretty well understood that he wouldn’t be doing much with transfers. He would be the manager on the pitch, and that was it. They didn’t want another Arsene Wenger, all-powerful situation.

And it’s looking like they are sticking to their guns. Yet, the man that they are pursuing to take on the director of football role post-Mislintat looks to be like a double-up on the Unai Emery way, showing faith in their appointment…

But also just a desire for a unified vision from the back room, which Mislintat was not able to provide, particularly after he was supposedly denied the higher role of technical director.

Monchi is the name being bantered about. He was in a similar role at Sevilla during Emery’s role at the club and is credited with the discovery of such fantastic talents as Sergio Ramos. Which is fantastic, because I think we could all go for a Sergio Ramos right about now.

Monchi and Emery have a history together, same as Denis Saurez and Emery have a history together, and despite what the club intended to do, they are clearly gearing up this new era to be one centered on Emery and what has always worked for him.

I have no problem with that. A unified vision, a shared understanding, is pretty damn important when you want to bring a top tier club back to the heights they deserve.

And, despite what some fans are griping about, I think most are excited about what can happen once we give Emery the support he wants and needs, not just financially, but everywhere.
