Arsenal: Kasper Dolberg makes more sense than you think
By Josh Sippie
Striker should be the last thing on Arsenal’s transfer radar, so why does Kasper Dolberg make so much sense? Let me tell you.
There are plenty of things on the Arsenal transfer radar, most of which I shouldn’t have to repeat for you, but I will, in very specific order: wingers, central defenders, creative attacking midfielders. If you really want to stretch it, we should be looking at fullbacks too.
But strikers? Not a chance. We have Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. What would we even want anyone else for? They compliment each other, no matter what anyone else says, they can play as two at the top or one or the other. It’s no big deal.
So in steps Kasper Dolberg, and these somewhat odd rumors that the Gunners have entered the transfer battle to land the young Danes services. He hasn’t been on a tear yet this year, scoring ten and assisting four in 27 appearances for Ajax, but that’s still a decent haul for a 21 year old and, besides, he’s missed 162 days due to injury going back to last April.
Not making a great case, am I? Wait for it.
The problem with starting Lacazette and Aubameyang together in a front two is that, if it doesn’t pan out, you have no one else to turn to, because clearly Eddie Nketiah isn’t ready yet, is he? And even if he was, Nketiah is an Aubameyang-esque striker, Lacazette is something different.

Dolberg is like a cross between Lacazette and Giroud, and thus a partnership is bound to develop, same as one is currently building between our two worldies.
Welbeck is leaving the club, that much is certain. He was the Dolberg, being a physical specimen to compared to the speed and precision of the primary choices. Having that other option, that other means of finishing an attack, is invaluable. It’s what would have made Olivier Giroud so much more valuable, rather than just a hold-over. He never had that other method.
Dolberg is all about filling in the gaps. By no means should he be a priority, as we can hardly even give Lacazette and Aubameyang the chances they need, but build behind them and Dolberg will become a much bigger piece of the puzzle. Especially if Unai Emery is set on utilizing a two striker set, which he absolutely should.
Again – not a priority. But if you get to the point that he’s what’s next on the to-do list? Then you’ve done damn well.
