Arsenal are a team that has needed to buck up for awhile, and Unai Emery is making that a lot easier with his ‘no excuses’ policy.

From the moment I had the power of cognitive thought, I was taught that you take responsibility for your actions and don’t make excuses. It seemed like a pretty simple enough concept, and one that can separate you from the sniveling of those that can’t handle their own flaws. And now it’s just another reason why I love Arsenal.

Unai Emery had another chance to complain. He could have made excuses, he could have griped or groaned or sounded off against a press that would have happily turned his words into front page news, but instead, he said that his club don’t have any excuses for not having as much rest as Rennes.

It’s the second time in less than a week that Emery has stood there in the face of the press, who are eagerly waiting for him to say something against someone, or shirk responsibility in some way, and he didn’t.

It’s a dream. When you have managers like Mauricio Pochettino crying about being unlucky, Jurgen Klopp complaining about the wind and Jose Mourinho (formally) complaining about everything in between, having an upstanding manager, with character and class reminiscent of Le Prof, just feels good.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It was the constant upper hand that Wenger had in his battle over Mourinho – one had class, the other was a jack…hammer.

Now we have Emery continuing that policy of class and responsibility, which is something that, as fans, we can be proud of. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a manager who shrieks like a child, “I don’t want to eat my vegetables, I’m so unlucky.” It’s be awful.

It sets a precedence for the players too. You won’t hear any of the players coming out saying that the grass wasn’t properly manicured, or the chap in row 113, seat A had a distracting mustache. It’s all about taking accountability for their actions and Emery is paving the way by showing how it’s done.

It’s no wonder why Emery was hired. Dossiers on players be damned, he has class, and you can’t teach that.

It’s not even been a full season yet, but I can’t think of any other man I’d rather have in charge of the club right now, given the lot of managers out there. Unai Emery just gets it. He gets the club, he gets the players, and time will vindicate the growing pains.
