Arsenal’s attack was meant to be built around the Fab Four, but this year has posed its problems. Will next year give them another chance?

Last January, everything changed. Suddenly, Arsenal‘s star power was up there with the best in the league, completely limited to the attack. They already had Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil, and they padded it with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, creating a quadruplet of attacking madness in the best way possible.

But it was Arsene Wenger’s Fab Four. Unai Emery clearly had a different opinion of it, as Ozil and Mkhitaryan fluttered in and out of the picture due to injuries and ineffectiveness. The Fab Four was no more, before it even got started.

And yet, here we are. For the past two months, the Fab Four has been clicking in a big way. Aubameyang and Lacazette haven’t deviated all year and Mkhitaryan has hit the spotlight as one of our best players this calendar year. Even Ozil has gotten back into the picture, playing well in two consecutive matches, with some optimism in the appearances prior.

Does that mean that they’ll have another season to lead this attack, though, or is it more likely that they’ll be broke up this summer, with so many questions left unanswered?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Had you asked this question in January, the answer would have been the latter. Ozil looked like he had no chance of hanging around and Mkhitaryan, too, looked futile. There was even talk of selling one of the two strikers, simply to fund some more useful moves.

So the question really comes down to whether or not they’ve revived their usefulness enough to merit another full season (because no one gets sold in January) at the front of a loaded attack?

Honestly, what’s the drawback? With Aaron Ramsey leaving, we’re going to need as much attacking power as we can get, and say what you want, each of these four guys has experience that we probably aren’t going to be able to replace in the summer months.

Not just that, but a significant overhaul would be required in order to justify breaking this quadruplet up, and as of right now, we don’t even have anyone in charge of the team’s transfers, so no plan is brewing to build a new attack.
