Arsenal: Oh yeah, there is something of Aaron Ramsey I won’t miss
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal will be saying farewell to Aaron Ramsey after over a decade with the club and he is going to be hugely missed. Except for one thing that will certainly not be missed.
We’ve spent a lot of time talking about how much Arsenal are going to miss Aaron Ramsey, and for just cause. It’s a travesty, not just that they are letting him go, but that they are letting him go for free. He should be being made captain, not being allowed to walk for free.
We are coming down to his last two months as a Gunner, and he has never been a bigger part of the club. Unai Emery has been sticking him in alongside Granit Xhaka in the holding two of a 3-5-2 and he’s been brilliant in that capacity, as his energy never dies and he’s been allowed the freedom that is so crucial to his success.
We’ve had two weeks without Arsenal football, all the while gearing up for the home stretch, without a single team in the top six ahead of us. All we need is for our top players to keep their heads, keep their focus and stay healthy.
And Ramsey gets hurt on a meaningless international break and has to come home early for treatment.

It’s not the first time, but it may well be the last. And while I have been gushing over how we should never have dared let his contract situation run down to nothing, I did manage to overlook one thing that I will certainly not miss about Ramsey – his constant injuries.
I don’t know what it is about him, probably just back luck, but it seems like he only ever gets hurt when he’s at his best. He never gets hurt when he’s struggling. He only gets hurt after a series of top performances. And it’s always such an annoyance because these minor injuries always shape up into something so much bigger than they should be.
Now we are questioning if he will be reading in time to face Newcastle at the Emirates – a match that Emery would probably have wanted to use the same 3-5-2 on, since it’s a match we would hope to control.
It’s a bummer. You’d think that fate could cut Ramsey a break and let him play out these last couple months at the Emirates without having to worry about niggling injuries. Maybe he’ll be just fine. We’ll just have to see.
