Arsenal: Thomas Partey would make this midfield a real partay
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal loaded up on midfield option last summer, but that doesn’t make a potential move for Thomas Partey any less of a party.
There are many things that Arsenal need this summer, but to be fair, those many things are specific things. It’s not like they’re going into the window with a blanks slate and tons of spots to fill. It will be completely dictated by how many players they decide to sell on, and what ground needs to be made up.
Through it all, the one area that looks like it’ll come out in good shape is the midfield. Along with Granit Xhaka, who isn’t going anywhere, Unai Emery bolstered with Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, both of whom boast considerable abilities from the midfield, and a ton of potential to grow and develop.
Even with them dropping off a little lately, they still have so much to give, even if they have to grow into it a little more before they are relied on 100%.
Plus, it’s hard to argue with the usage of Aaron Ramsey, as he’s been doing a tremendous job alongside Xhaka in the past two matches.

But with Ramsey on the way out, and Torreira and Guendouzi still growing, there is still that allure of a ready-now talent who can truly devour the role and make this midfield truly fearsome, as if it wasn’t fearsome enough already.
That man is Thomas Partey, and I will never get tired of saying his name. At 25 years old, Partey is no longer a prospect. He’s grown into one of the better midfielders in Europe and he is an Unai Emery kind of guy – fearsome, determined, very Torreira-esque, very Guendouzi-esque. Only he’s here and now, and the only growing he’d need is a bit of acclimation, but the guy is such a physical player that that wouldn’t take much.
Partey opened up about how exciting a move to England would be, though it’s suspected that Diego Simeone has no intention of selling the Ghanaian international, who is locked in until 2023 anyway.
He wouldn’t come cheap, though, and that’s where you have to really think about it – would it really be prudent to spend that money on someone who would bolster an already stocked position and thus eliminate all doubt, or would you rather pad some other positions that don’t have as much padding?
That said, a lot of matches are won and lost in the midfield, and Partey would definitely come with some wins attached.
