Arsenal vs Everton: 5 key players to take crucial road points
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have been cruising at home, but now they have to go away to Everton and take road points. Here are five crucial guys to accomplishing that.
It feels weird, having just watched Arsenal take out Newcastle and now to be talking about a match that’s just days away. The two week break is still doing tricks on my mind. But true it is! Everton is just around the corner on Sunday as we travel to Goodison and for the sake of eliminating any doubts, we could really go for a nice, conclusive away win here.
Everton are coming off two consecutive wins against Chelsea and West Ham, both of which were impressive wins, though they did drop points to Newcastle the week before that.
Still, this is certainly one of those potential stumbling blocks in the final stretch of the season, if not entirely because it’s an away match, then also because the Toffees actually aren’t that bad of an outfit to begin with.
That said, Goodison Park has always been a bit friendlier than most, and as such, we can go in with confidence, knowing that there is a job that needs doing and we have the personnel to do it. So let’s start talking about the five key players to ensure that this match goes the way it needs to go.
We will start where we always do, with No. 5.
5. Matteo Guendouzi
Matteo Guendouzi has been an absolute brilliant addition this year, and every time he takes the pitch, we see more and more just how talented he is, and is going to be.
In the absence of Granit Xhaka against Newcastle, he was a massive controlling force, and with Aaron Ramsey‘s health in question against Everton, I’d expect Guendouzi to take on a bigger role as the driving force in the midfield, which he has proven he can do.
The key aspect of his play is going to come down to being secure in possession as he drives forward. He can get a bit ambitious at times, which is great, but trying to force himself through lines of Everton players isn’t the best recourse when we need to win the battle of the midfield.
More on this later, but for now, on to No. 4.
