Arsenal: Jordan Veretout link proves the right mindset, if nothing else
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are linked to another midfielder who follows a similar theme, so at the very least, this club has their head in the right place for the transfer window.
Arsenal‘s summer transfer window is going to be interesting. If it takes on any similarities to what Unai Emery has done this season, then anything could happen. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him clear out a lot of players and rebuild around new purchases of his choosing.
Defense is a big talking point, as are the wings, but with Aaron Ramsey leaving the club, we obviously can’t leave that be. Many of the transfer links have thus played on this soon-to-be vacancy, tying numerous midfielders to the club, some of whom make sense, some of whom inevitably don’t.
But the general theme of the links lately have been quite positive. It started with Franck Kessie, then moved to Joan Jordan, and now on to Jordan Veretout.
Both Kessie and Jordan are on the younger side, in the Lucas Torreira age category, but they also have that Ramsey intangible. Meaning that they dabble in all things, from defense to defense, and they never quit.

That’s the main thing we need to recoup with losing Ramsey. Even if we can’t replace him (and make no mistake, we can’t not with one man), we need to get someone of the same type as him. Which sounds impossible, but names like Kessie and Jordan are at the point in their careers where they’re showing the tendency to develop into a Ramsey-like midfielder that does a little bit of everything.
And in comes Jordan Veretout. 26-years-old, just younger than Ramsey himself, and he, too, has all of the fixings of a midfielder of Ramsey’s ilk. He creates chances consistently, he defends without complaint, he scores goals, and, perhaps most importantly – he is secure with the ball.
Statistically even moreso than Ramsey, though Serie A and Premier League ball security are two completely different things.
Regardless, what’s not to like about the link to Veretout? It’s in the exact same category as the links to Kessie and Jordan and it shows that, if nothing else, at least the people in charge of the transfer situation (whoever they may be) have their heads in the right place. And that counts for something.
You might not be able to replace Ramsey with one man, but you sure as hell have to try.
