Arsenal reportedly have a buy-back clause on Empoli phenom Ismael Bennace and all I have to say is that there is no reason to not buy him back.

The theme of my writing this summer has been to invest in this Arsenal midfield and, once you’ve done that, invest some more. Good, hearty young players with their hearts on their sleeves and the world to win over.

Matteo Guendouzi is one of those guys, and so is Lucas Torreira. These are Unai Emery guys who invest so much effort into every minute they are on the pitch. yet they each bring something different. The same goes for Aaron Ramsey who… is leaving.

There is a dire need to be smart with how we replace Ramsey, but for as wonderful as our club is, there is always going to be competition for players. That is, unless there isn’t.

Ismael Bennacer was one of those young midfield products that, due to lack of game time, was sent elsewhere to ply his trade.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

And that’s where he’s making a name for himself. Because at Empoli, he’s done exactly that. Conveniently enough, he has a reported buyback clause attached to his contract at Empoli, meaning the Gunners can get him back with “first dibs.”

Bennacer has been fantastic for the Serie A side. If you haven’t had a chance to watch him yet, do yourself a favor and go check him out, because it’s been a joy watching him play, and you can see how hungry of a player he is.

But it’s not just all effort, there’s an intelligence to his effort. He’s not just effort for effort’s sake, he’s economical. Like a sentence that does the exact job you want it to without extra words. It reflects in his stats, if you want to go off that alone, but watch him play. Each step has a purpose, and each step is secure. He’s been fantastic in that regard.

And he’s even been creating a bit as well, as was what made him such a promising young product in the first place. He would be an absolute asset to this team and, given his skillset, the kind of guy who can help us get over losing Ramsey, not least of all because he’s only 21 and has a lot of growing yet to go.

Basically what I’m trying to say is, there is literally no drawback to bringing him back. There is going to be opportunity aplenty for a talented young midfielder like him, especially as he brings a skillset that is unique to the others at the club, combining a little bit of all the guys.

Also, if you’re going to sell more guys, like Mohammed Elneny, or Mesut Ozil… well, we’re going to need more guys, and Bennacer is a great place to start (but not finish).
