1. Granit Xhaka

Here’s the thing. If I have to watch Mohamed Elneny and Matteo Guendouzi play together again, I’ll claw my eyes out. And, that being said, if I have to watch Elneny play again, at all, I’ll claw one eye out. I know right? High roller.

Seriously though, the difference between having Granit Xhaka in there and not is like the difference between having a treasure chest full of gold and having a treasure chest full of used napkins. There is no utility in those used napkins, but with the gold, you can do so much, you can have so much more confidence in your circumstance.

Xhaka was missing due to injury and I’m starting to worry that this nagging injury will carry on into the summer, meaning that this last cluster of fixtures as the season winds down may force Emery to be creative to get around a hampered Xhaka.

Still, if there is any way he can play against Wolverhampton, he kind of has to. While I trust Matteo Guendouzi with the right partner, the only other option is Lucas Torreira and for as much as I have faith in these two, it’s still only a chest full of copper wiring. Useful, but nothing like the gold.
