Arsenal: Emi Martinez is dead right and incredibly convenient
By Josh Sippie
Emiliano Martine has called his Arsenal future into doubt with some requirements for next year, but this is all valid and it all makes sense.
There was a lot of stress at the end of last year regarding the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal. Petr Cech had surrendered a ridiculous amount of errors leading to goals and David Ospina still wasn’t a solution for the club, just like he had never been before.
Cries of wanting Wojciech Szczesny back were loud and clear – the club had to do something to inspire confidence in between the posts. And while it may have looked questionable at the start, we can conclusively say now that Bernd Leno is the perfect guy to accomplish what we needed accomplishing.
Not to mention that he is still young and has so many years yet to offer the club. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is still just one man and, to add to that, he is also a human being, susceptible to mistakes.
With Petr Cech retiring at the end of the year, we really need to address the No. 2 keeper position, but the problem with that is that we already have so many position to address in the summer.

The defense is in need of help, both in the center and at fullback. The midfield needs significant help, with Aaron Ramsey leaving the club. The creative midfield needs significant help, as it’s assumed that Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan probably have nowhere left to hide at the club.
That’s a lot to address, and it would be incredibly helpful if the No. 2 keeper situation just sorted itself out.
Thankfully, it can. Emi Martinez, who has been at the club for seemingly ever, has said that if he isn’t going to get a chance at the club, he wants to leave. He wants a chance to challenge for the No. 1 spot.
How convenient.
The now 26-year-old keeper has been hovering on the peripherals for half a decade, poking his head in and out of the first team, and with Leno in charge of the No. 1 spot, Martinez is the perfect, stress-free solution to the No. 2 spot. There’s literally no reason to overthink this. Give the lad a chance.
He’s been the first choice at numerous loan clubs, so it only makes sense that he can anchor the club for the side competitions. And if he can’t, well then at least we know.
