Arsenal hosted Brighton with everything on the line and yet again, they failed. Europa League or nothing, boys.

Arsenal are clearly showing their priorities this late into the season, focusing on the Europa League, but it’s hard to blame them. They no longer hold their fate in their hands, and will be relying on Everton and Leicester City to cause a ruckus above them in the table while they themselves have to deal with Burnley.

Still, despite the lack of priority, this match against Brighton was lacking serious urgency. The first half, aside from a few happy moments, looked like a practice match more than anything, and were it not for a (rather annoying) flop from Nacho Monreal, the score would have been level going into half.

But a penalty was awarded, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slotted it home to give an early lead to the Gunners.

Hopefully you enjoyed that goal, because nothing else good would come from the match. The Gunners mustered all of zero urgency to extend that lead and, in return, they were undone by a single stupid mistakes from Granit Xhaka, giving away a penalty.

And still the hosts had so much time to change their fortunes and still they did nothing. The match finished 1-1, the top four hopes are over. God help us all.

Here are the player ratings.

Goalkeeper

7.4. Pissed his pants and forgot who he was in the 25th minute, but the fright ended with a good save. Was called on to make several more crucial saves throughout the course of the match, including an unbelievable flying save well into the final ten minutes that would have given Brighton the win. Saves our pants yet again from his fortress on Leno Island.. GK. Arsenal. BERND LENO
