Arsenal: Selling Alexandre Lacazette a complete capitulation
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal often get to the place where we ask “how could it get any worse?” Well, selling Alexandre Lacazette is one way to answer that question.
The ups and downs of this season have been truly remarkable. Arsenal have gone in and out of the top four like that stupid kid who loves running ten laps around a revolving door just for the fun of it. And to be fair, it was fun, but it would have been a hell of a lot more fun if we had managed to finish in the building in the end, and not out in the cold.
With everything riding on the Europa League, there is a lot that could go wrong. God forbid this club doesn’t win the Europa League because, if they don’t, there is going to be a hell of a lot of “what could be worse?”
And how could things get worse from there? Another year with no Champions League, another year with financial handcuffs, another year without improvement. How does it get any worse than that?
Well, you sell Alexandre Lacazette, that’s how.

There are some rather unwelcome rumors that Barcelona are preparing a £70m bid for the prolific French striker, which, for starters, is far too low, but for finishers, just get the hell away from here, we can’t sell him, we won’t sell him.
Selling Lacazette would be a complete capitulation. It would be rock bottom. You can’t just up and sell your Player of the Season when the team is having so much trouble finding their way back into the top tier of European Football. It would be the ultimate sting. We are already losing Aaron Ramsey to perennial Champions League contenders Juventus, but to lose Lacazette to Barcelona would be another dagger.
The club has the power though. They have the control. I have to believe that if we can eek out the Europa League and ensure a return to the Champions League, that Lacazette will have no reason to leave the club. He likes it here, doesn’t he? And we have no big reason to sell. Not with how many other guys we can sell to raise money.
But if we do miss out on Champions League, don’t get that financial boost, and actually have to sell players to raise money? Well, I don’t want to think about that.
You can’t sell Lacazette. He may be the only person I will say that about, but you just can’t sell him. No matter what.
