Arsenal don’t have a lot of things going for them, but their striking pair is the best in the world, and I dare anyone to say otherwise.

Arsenal have been up and down all year, mostly in a bad way. Despite so much talent and natural ability, you still see them falling to Crystal Palace at home and all you can do is shrug. But no matter what goes wrong, you can always count on one thing to be better than any other team in the world boasts.

And that is this striking pair.

You can sum it all up by the two legs against Valencia. Buried in between a horrible stretch in the Premier League, Arsenal needed to call on someone, anyone that could step up. But they didn’t just get one, they got two, as they always seem to do.

In the first leg, it was Alexandre Lacazette with a brace, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang notching that crucial third goal.

In the second leg, it was Aubameyang with the hat trick and Lacazette notching a crucial goal in between. Never any doubt, these two powered the team through, into the finals of the same competitions this club failed to capitalize on last year against Atletico Madrid.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

33 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League, 13 goals, 4 assists in the Europa League for a grand total (as of writing) of 46 goals and 17 assists split between the two of them. That’s 63 goal contributions from the feet of two guys.

Nobody on the club comes near that kind of production, and you won’t find two guys elsewhere near that kind of production either, not split between just two guys. Unless you want to count Ajax’s dastardly duo of Hakim Ziyech and Dusan Tadic, but they are bolstered by ridiculous domestic counts in a league that isn’t exactly known for it’s widespread talent.

With Lacazette and Aubameyang, they’ve buoyed a season mired in troubles, and they’ve done it all happily, as two guys who look like they’ve always been the best of friends. Like there was never any doubt that they could take on the world.

The only travesty here is that they aren’t being tested in the Champions League. Because that’s where you’d really see them pop.

But at the end of the day, I’ll be here, waiting for someone to try to make a claim that they have a better striking pair than we do. Because it just doesn’t exist.
