2. Willock shows brief glimpses

It was not a perfect performance from young attacking midfield Joe Willock. He slipped in and out of the action at times and offered little with his movement off the ball at times. But he was Arsenal’s best player for large periods of the match — that, sadly, says more about the rest of the team than it does Willock’s individual showing.

There were some extremely bright moments for Willock. He burst past a couple of defenders early on, providing some drive to what was up until that point a completely aimless, rudderless performance. He then curled a lovely shot just past the far post after turning Ben Mee with a sensational first touch.  …..

These were only brief glimpses of his talent, but they were enough to suggest that he needs to be handed more playing time in the future, starting next season. Willock is now 20. He should be playing as regularly as his talent allows, and on this showing, it allows more than he is currently getting.
