Arsenal: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang walked before he talked
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s ravishing history has bred plenty of legends, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyan wants to be next. Well, he’s walking the talk.
It takes a lot to be considered a legend at a club like Arsenal. When Aaron Ramsey, who served for a decade, whose heroics broke the trophy drought and triggered what glory we could find, who scored over 50 goals for the club from midfield, is only on the fence of being a legend, you see the standard.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has it in his sights on being an Arsenal legend now. And while a lot of players have talked about being a legend – Mesut Ozil, for instance – Aubameyang walked before he talked, and that’s what has me paying attention.
When Aubameyang first arrived, he was one of the most out-of-the-ordinary signings we’ve ever seen. It did not fit with anything Arsene Wenger had ever done before. But from the moment Auba hit the pitch, it made sense.
So much speed, so much ability in space, and so much room of prolific play. It was a fantastic compliment to Alexandre Lacazette.
And while Auba was outspoken about his excitement to be at the club, and to be working with Wenger, and to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, he never spoke about his own prospective legacy at the club. Never.

Now that he has won a Golden Boot, though, and helped propel us to a Europa League final, things are different. Now Aubameyang is locked in on this legendary status. And what a great time to make that assertion.
Normally I don’t care what players say, but seeing as how Auba spoke with his actions before his words, I’m paying attention. Not least of all because it comes at a time of massive transition with the club, so to hear that an elite player like Aubameyang is interested in staying at the club long enough to be a legend – which will essentially take to the end of his career – is a fantastic sign of things to come.
Especially with Lacazette rumors floating around the transfer sphere. We need all the assurances we can get, and with Auba locked in and dedicated to the club, we can rest easy that at the very least, we have one elite striker, and that, in turn, should stay appealing to Lacazette with the flourishing bromance.
Auba can be a legend. He is going to have to work damn hard to get there, but if anyone is capable, Auba is.
