Arsenal: Complete 2018/19 season player ratings
Alexandre Lacazette – 8.75
Arsenal’s Player of the Season. I do not usually pay too much attention to the individual awards won in a team game. Not only do I find them a little obtuse, but they tend to be voted on by morons who are drawn in by narrative, not by who actually was the best player — Lionel Messi would win the Ballon d’Or every year if the decision were made properly.
Nevertheless, this season, the Arsenal fans came together and managed to vote for the right candidate. Alexandre Lacazette was indeed their Player of the Season. In fact, he was utterly superb, and he started the first three games of the season on the bench.
By the end of the year, the Frenchman had scored 18 goals in the Premier League and Europa League as well as notching 10 assists, a team-leading tally. Only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was directly involved in more goals than Lacazette and Lacazette brought far more to the table than just goals and assists. It was his all-around striking play that endeared himself to the Arsenal fans, his dribbling ability, superb first touch, and deceptive strength making him extremely difficult to dispossess.
Lacazette was excellent for Arsenal this season. A real joy to watch and a deserved winner of the Player of the Season award.
