Shkodran Mustafi – 4.5

There were very few who thought that Shkodran Mustafi was a good player before last season. Those that still believed in him, which was largely out of a faint hope that he could put his skill set together and figure it all out, have surely fallen by the wayside now. This was a quintessential Mustafi season, and not in a good way.

There were some positive performances in there. He filled in admirably at right-back on a few occasions and he was willing to move from a back four to a back three from match to match. But there were also plenty of those same old mind-numbing errors, and in the end, they cost his team.

His letting Wilfried Zaha by and then seemingly blaming Bernd Leno was the principal mistake of the year, the one that everyone remembers. That loss was the beginnig of Arsenal’s downfall in the close of the year. Mustafi, you would think, will be sold this summer.
