Laurent Koscielny – 7.5

If you wanted the best narrative of any player in the world this season, you might not have to look much further than Laurent Koscielny. The centre-back with a broken body who ruptured his Achilles in a Europa League semi-final, missed his country win the World Cup, and battled back at the age of 33 to be the best defender in his team.

Koscielny was superb in the latter stages of the season. He certainly looked a little rusty when he first broke into the team, and I think there were plenty questioning whether his body could reach the Premier League standard once again, but as he settled into his starting role, he quickly rediscovered his very best form.

His pace might not quite be what it was, but his reading of the game is superb, his passing is deceptively influential from deep, and he was especially good when anchoring a back three at the heart of the defence. Nice to have him back at his best.
