Arsenal are at risk of losing Xavier Amaechi, so just promote the guy before he leaves and call it a day. What’s there to think about?

Arsenal‘s handling of young players and the transfer window, particularly letting players go for free or undervalued, is pretty well storied. If they lost Xavier Amaechi and he turned up three years down the road as a world class talent, no one would be surprised.

But what makes this situation not so unique is the fact that Serge Gnabry went through a very similar situation not that long ago. He should have been up with the first team, but wasn’t, and so Bayern Munich swooped in and took him away.

Meanwhile, the Gunners still have zero wings and Gnabry is crushing it in Germany. He worked his way into the starting XI, scored ten goals and five assists. Even typing that again makes me sick.

And you remember how much we sold him for? Less than £5m. Now he’s valued at £40m at the very least.

Yeah, I’m going to be sick.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Xavier Amaechi, like Gnabry, believes he should be in the first team at Arsenal, despite being just 18-years-old, and I’d rather make the mistake of calling him up too soon and him not being ready then seeing him go play tandem with Serge Gnabry at Bayern Munich, contributing 15 goals.

The question is, have we gone too far already? The West Brom loan is what pushed Gnabry over the top. He had to leave after that and I don’t blame him. It was shambolic. And as sick as it makes me, I’m so glad he’s capitalized on his ability.

Amaechi was upset that he wasn’t given any chances in the first team this year, while others were, and I just hope there’s still time to salvage his Arsenal career and give him the chance he deserves in this first team. He’s rated quite highly and even if it takes him a year or two to completely latch on, it’s worth it.

And it’s not like we’d be putting him in front of anyone else. Remember, we have no wingers. So either we spent a ton of money fixing that or we trust talented young players to fix it and play the long game.
