Arsenal are supposedly nearing selling Calum Chambers for £12.5m. If this comes to pass, this club will never reach the heights they supposedly want to.

Arsenal are starting to get linked to some really stupid things this transfer window. Lucas Torreira being sold is one thing. Calum Chambers being sold is another. But the latter gets even stupider when you get to the second part of that rumor – he’s only worth £12.5m?

It’s a new era here at the Emirates. A chance to start with a clean slate and get things done the right way. I know I’ve been talking about Liverpool a lot lately, but that’s because they did things the right way.

They brought in Jurgen Klopp, gave him time, sold a lot of players at completely justifiable prices and with those funds, they managed to build a Champions League-winning squad with just about £20m spent in the transfer market (when weighed against their outgoing transfers).

That is some fantastic business. And as I’ve mentioned previously, they weren’t making major sales, they were just making a lot of small-medium sales that piled up. They knew their players value and sold them for a good fee.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

If Liverpool were selling a 24-year-old English defender/midfielder who just won his club’s Player of the Season and has shown tremendous growth over the past half decade, they would probably be looking for a bout £25m+.

Not half of that.

I know it’s still in the rumor stages. But selling Calum Chambers at all is a bad idea. But if you have to sell him, then you have to get a good price for him. Why? Because he is worth a good price. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to see him leave for anything less than £30m. Not when you think about what he has accomplished.

He anchored Boro’s defense two years ago. He worked his way into the Arsenal first team last year. He won Fulham’s player of the season for his work as a midfielder – not even a centerback even more, though he can play that too.

And we’re only looking to get £12.5m?

That is horrible transfer window management. Horrible. And if it does come to pass, it will show that nothing has changed. That we’re still going to stagnate in transfer windows.

There are way too many things to get worked up about and it’s still far too early in the transfer window.
