Arsenal have to get serious with their transfer pursuits, so with Ryan Fraser and Yannick Carrasco dropping out of the race, who’s the next to fall?

Arsenal‘s summer transfer window has bred no results, barring the anticlimactic sale of David Ospina, who I’m sure most of us had already forgotten about. They have been hot on the heels of a lot of wingers, but one by one, these wingers are dropping off the radar, likely because of price.

The first target, Ryan Fraser, many deemed underwhelming, despite having as many assists as the Gunners’ top two assisters combined. Couple that with seven goals, and you’re looking at a guy who is only underwhelming in name value.

The Gunners looked determined to spend £25m on the Scottish winger, but Bournemouth were reportedly holding out for £30m. Not long after this supposed price was revealed, Fraser admitted that he probably wasn’t going anywhere, and Bournemouth then said he wasn’t for sale.

Then there was Yannick Carrasco. Reportedly available for a tame £25m, it made too much since to give him a glorious return to European football while rescuing him from obscurity in China.

But when reports came out that Carrasco was actually going to cost £30, the rumor fell apart, and the Gunners were no longer interested.

There are still plenty of wingers still on the table – Ismaila Sarr, £30m; David Neres, £40m; Alexis Claude-Maurice, £18m; Hakim Ziyech, £25-30m. These are the guys we are working with, so again – who is the next to be pushed out of the spectrum?

It’s actually getting easier to see what the Gunners will end up with just by following the chatter. If Carrasco and Fraser really are out of the picture because of their price tag, then you can bet that Sarr and Neres are also off the table, unless they are judged to be that much better than Fraser or Carrasco.

Which leaves us with Claude-Maurice and Ziyech. Which is literally all we need. I would be beyond happy if we bought Claude-Maurice to pad our youth options and Ziyech to float in an attacking role, replacing Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan simultaneously.

Hell, sell both those guys and you can pay off the Ziyech move with ease.

We may not have signed anyone yet, but narrowing the scope is giving us a good indication that the transfer folks have their head in the right place.
