Arsenal: So what if Yannick Carrasco is “lazy,” so was Aubameyang
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal target Yannick Carrasco has been ousted by his teammate for being lazy. But is it really enough to merit a response from his potential new home at the Emirates?
Arsenal are in the market for some serious help on the wings, and Yannick Carrasco certainly fits the bill. By hook or by crook, Atletico Madrid sold him to the Chinese Super League, and, well, let’s just say that Carrasco doesn’t want to be there anymore.
He is linked to a move back into relevance with the Gunners, but his transfer fee of £30m is proving to be a bit of a hang-up.
So in the meantime, Carrasco has not exactly been playing his hardest over there, and he has now been called out by his teammate.
Dalian Yifang goalkeeper Yu Ziqian went off on Yannick Carrasco on Chinese social media. Here are some of the highlights of what he said:
"“When we played Shanghai Greenland Shenhua you deliberately got a fourth yellow card (in the season) and got a suspension to avoid playing Shanghai SIPG; and then you went back to Europe ahead of schedule.”More from Pain in the Arsenal3 standout players from 1-0 victory over Everton3 positives & negatives from Goodison Park victoryArsenal vs PSV preview: Prediction, team news & lineups3 talking points from Arsenal’s victory at Goodison ParkMikel Arteta provides Gabriel Martinelli injury update after Everton win“When we played Hebei China Fortune you told the club your plane was late. If you came back one day earlier, how could you be late?”“Now you are back, but you don’t even move in training. When we play training matches you just you just stand around the pitch, you do not attack and do not defend.”"
Naturally, there’s no excuse to behave as Carrasco is supposedly behaving. You never want to see a guy not want to play. We’d know, we saw it in Alexis Sanchez in his latter years at the Emirates. It’s annoying. It’s not right. It should not be tolerated.
That said, we don’t know what goes into each individual situation. Supposedly, the entire scenario of Carrasco ending up in China seemed… dubious. Along the lines of him never wanting to be there in the first place. So while I won’t excuse his actions, assuming they are true, I will say that it’s tough to judge him too harshly.
And remember – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was accused of the same things at Borussia Dortmund before he made the move. He was showing up late for training, lacked motivation, etc. etc. and to me, Aubameyang’s situation was worse, because he grew up at Dortmund and became an icon there.
Yet who here was pitching a fit about that? Not me. Maybe I frowned on it, but once he put on that Arsenal shirt, nothing else mattered.
The same goes for Carrasco. He doesn’t want to be there, and that’s unfortunate, but bring him to the Emirates and put that red and white shirt on him and I don’t care what he did at his previous digs.
