Arsenal are supposedly having to fend off Manchester United’s pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they can go bark up another tree – it’s not happening.

The idea of Arsenal selling a Golden Boot winner to direct rivals Manchester United sounds like something that nightmares are made of. Because there is a nightmare that was made of exactly that. And now, Manchester United are back for another – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After filching Robin van Persie off of us in the dark, debt days of the Emirates, the Red Devils look to make it a twofer, because apparently Alexis Sanchez just isn’t cutting it. And with Romelu Lukaku also ending up a failure, they have nowhere to turn but right next door, at the Golden Boot winner Aubameyang.

Rumors have United coming in hot with a bit of £70m, but that in and of itself is a laughable bid. The Gunners need to see far more than that to even briefly consider selling Aubameyang, but that doesn’t mean that they should ever consider selling him down the road.

Of all the things that went wrong last year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang counts himself as one of the few things that went right. His push at the end of the season to win that Golden Boot was worth the price of admission, even if we missed out on fourth place by one damn point.

And don’t talk to me about the missed penalty, please. I can’t bear it.

Between Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, we had the best striking pair in England, if not in the world, and they continued to showcase their combined ability no matter how much everyone else was struggling to create, or defend, or keep possession behind them.

No, I have no humor for news such as this. Dare I even say that Manchester United should know better. Gooners were subjected to pure hell when the Flying Dutchman left, so to think that we would even consider going on that ride again is asinine. It’s shenanigans of the highest order. Aubameyang is an Arsenal man, he’s going to stay that way, and if we are to sell him, it has to be for a price that is stratospheric, and it has to be out of the country. No excuses.

Otherwise we really haven’t changed at all from the Arsene Wenger days, and I don’t think that’s the kind of message that Unai Emery wants to send.
