Arsenal are supposedly getting official bids for Lucas Torreira, and the bid is a meager £31m… So at least now we know we’re not the only ones lowballing.

Arsenal‘s transfer window has yet to kick into gear, and while the purchases may have to wait until July, when the Adidas deal kicks in, the sales can start whenever we feel like it. Although the first sale, the one that is floating around the most, is certainly not one we should be looking forward.

Lucas Torreira has been hanging on the edge of the transfer spectrum for the past few weeks, and it all came from some rather idle, harmless statements about struggling to acclimate to life at the Emirates. But those statements are going further now, with actual bids coming in for the Uruguayan.

Hilariously, the bid that is being reported is in the vicinity of £31m from AC Milan. Which would be chump change more than we paid for him last summer. It’s honestly a joke of a bid, and it makes me chuckle that we’re not the only team out there that is low-balling offers to try to finagle a deal on the cheap.

Apparently, the Gunners are holding out for a bid in the region of £45m, which is a healthy margin above what AC Milan are willing to pay.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Honestly, even that valuation is too low. Lucas Torreira is only going to get better at the club the more he settles in and acclimates. And, for those of you that have already forgotten, Torreira even said that he was going to adapt over the years,” which seems to hint that he was in no hurry to leave.

After all, being so honest in that moment, saying something like that was obviously just as honest.

What this comes down to is needs. Arsenal’s midfield needs Lucas Torreira. They were fantastic when their midfield was clicking, and Torreira was a huge part of that, even with flights of inconsistency. He’s an excellent partner for Granit Xhaka, which is something we’ve been looking for for ages, and for as much as I love Matteo Guendouzi, he’s not the right type of player to take over should Torreira leave.

It’s not a sensible sale, plain and simple, but at least the Gunners can hold their ground and demand a fair fee for the man, if in fact this is what they intend to do.
