Arsenal and Dominik Szoboszlai: Well, they went there
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszla could supposedly become “the best central midfielder in the world.” And now that it’s gone there, there’s no going back.
Arsenal‘s quest to replace Aaron Ramsey is probably going to be a multi-year ordeal. And honestly, I hate to even think of anybody as “the guy to replace Aaron Ramsey,” because there’s way too much between point A and point B that could go wrong, or derail, or fall flat on its face. But despite what I want, Dominik Szoboszlai has been touted as exactly that.
Not to be outdone, after Dominik Szoboszlai was compared to Aaron Ramsey and heralded as the potential solution, Red Bull Salzburg manager Rene Maric had to outdo the media, saying that Szoboszlai could become the best central midfielder in the world
Fun, right? Of course, the good news is, you can’t go much higher than that. The cat’s out of the bag. Pandora doesn’t go back into the box, he only comes out. Dominik Szoboszlai is the next Aaron Ramsey, but wait! He will also be the best central midfielder in the world, which, for as much as I love Ramsey, means that he isn’t just the next Ramsey, but he will be even better than Ramsey.
Nothing like building up the hype before a potential move, which is exactly that Maric is doing here. He understands that he has a talented player and, in order to get the “right price,” he is going to drive up the value with his own words.

Or at least, he’s going to try to.
With a fee of £15m, the Gunners don’t have much to lose in investing in him. He’s 18-years-old, he’s undoubtedly got a ton of talent, he does all the things that Ramsey did—defense, attack, ball control, creation, scoring—and all he really seems to need is development.
But the hype is now a point of concern. I remember when Vlad Dragomir first signed with the Gunners, and was heralded as a future superstar, and from that moment on, it felt like his career path was doomed. You hype a guy too much and he will never live up to expectations that should even be expectations.
So here we have Dominik Szoboszlai, the next Aaron Ramsey and the future best central midfielder in the world. Good f***ing luck living up to that mantle, young man. Good, f***ing luck.
Arsenal need help in the midfield though, so if Dominik Szoboszlai can do the job, then hype be damned, let’s sign him up.
