Arsenal: Nabil Fekir has gone from viable to no-brainer

Arsenal need a new creative engine to run this attack, and Nabil Fekir is supposedly out there at a bargain price. It’s a no brainer.

Never did I think I’d see the day where Lyon were offering Nabil Fekir for bargain rates. The French attacker, after his 21 goal, nine assist season, was so good that everyone wanted him. Arsenal weren’t even in the running because the price was so high.

Liverpool won that race, but a medical made the deal fall through and now, Fekir is still hanging out at Lyon, waiting to take his talent to the next level, as as he always wanted.

With just a year left on his contract, it makes sense that Lyon are doing their best to try to recoup some value on what should have been a massive paycheck for the club, and Arsenal are the perfect club to pitch to.

My thing is, I don’t know why it’s taken so long for the Gunners to truly consider going back after someone who is clearly such a viable option. Not just viable, but a no-brainer.

The only thing that has changed between now and his breakout season is the fall through in his Liverpool medical. Unless there is something there that is just impossible to get through, then why wouldn’t we spend £30m on a guy that can effectively replace Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as our preferred No. 10 who can actually score goals and create assists with a degree of consistency we’ve never had before.

Even with his abbreviated season after the Liverpool fall through, guess what? Nabil Fekir did not fall off in terms of production. He’s too good for that. The is an all-purpose attacker without a significant weakness and because nothing has panned out for him, we now have the chance to get him (reportedly) for a fee far below his value because he isn’t going to sign a new deal at Lyon.

They’ve even admitted that he needs a new challenge. What better landing than Arsenal, who have the opening for him to slide right into the first team? Like I said, it’s a complete no brainer.

And, if we can sell Ozil and Mkhitaryan for a combined £30m, which shouldn’t be too difficult, then hypothetically, we can get Nabil Fekir for free. You can’t do much better than that when Liverpool almost paid twice the price for him.
