Arsenal: One checkpoint that’s holding this transfer window back
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal fans are all wondering why nothing is getting done this transfer window, but there’s still one crucial checkpoint that we haven’t passed yet.
Arsenal‘s transfer window hasn’t started yet. It’s July now, going into the second week, and they’ve only managed to sign Gabriel Martinelli, even if the links are persisting that guys like Kieran Tierney and William Saliba are inching closer.
And sure, a deal could come tomorrow. After all, the Adidas deal is in effect, we have our funds available, we’re ready to use those funds, limited though they might be, on some serious solutions. But there haven’t been any sales yet either, and there’s only one more reason why I think that the transfer window is stalling a bit.
That’s because no one is in charge. I think back to last summer and we had Sven Mislintat running the show. All of our signings were identified by and purchased under Mislintat’s eye.
We don’t have that eye thus far into the summer. We have Raul Sanllehi, but he isn’t the person in charger here. The person in charge is Edu, but Edu isn’t here yet.

Our only signing thus far has been Martinelli, who is an Edu man. None of these other guys have Edu written all over them, and no sales have taken place because maybe Edu doesn’t know who he wants to sell yet.
It makes sense that Sanllehi and the rest of the Gunners’ braintrust wouldn’t want to conduct too much business before their long-term Technical Director even arrives at the club to discuss short-term and long-term goals. Of course they want to hash out all the pieces necessary for the future and how they can best approach this transfer window.
It’s annoying, that we have to keep waiting, but at least there’s a sensible reason (at least one I believe in) why this club is having so much trouble getting anything done. Because they don’t want to get anything started without having everyone on board.
That’s the bad news (ish). The good news is that the Copa America wraps up today, and is probably already over as you’re reading this. That is the last step between us and getting Edu on board for the transfer window.
Which means, for those of you that need the whole thing put together, that next week could be a big week for our transfer prospectus, as the last checkpoint will be through.
