Arsenal need attacking help, and they need it on the relatively cheap. So to let Hakim Ziyech slip by would be an utter atrocity, and one of the worst misses.

Being Arsenal fans, we are quite accustomed to misses in the transfer window… and on the pitch too. It’s a club of near successes and almost’s, at least that’s what it’s become lately. Hakim Ziyech, a self-proclaimed fan of the club, looks to be the next in a series of misses.

Ziyech made it clear earlier in the window that he would love to move to Arsenal. He made that so obvious. At the time, I tried to disregard the fact that every time a plater points out that they are Gooners before actually becoming an Arsenal player, it rarely ends well. Serge Aurier did it, remember? And he wasn’t the first.

But with Ziyech, I convinced myself it would be different. For just £35m, we could land one of the most prolific goal-scoring attackers in all of Europe. He was the inspiration behind so much of Ajax’s run into the Champions League and the next step in his career was to upgrade to a bigger platform.

The Gunners looked to be the front runner for so long, especially with that annoying rumor that he had a £25m release clause—a rumor that has since been disproved.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But raising that price £10m shouldn’t be enough to drive off interest in a guy that, even if you cut his goal contributions in half, would still be in our top three producers, right? Apparently so. Because since that’s happened, the Gunners have been nonexistent in Ziyech’s search for his next career step.

In our stead has stepped Sevilla, a club that by no means should be winning races to players such as Ziyech. They are now being tipped as the club that will secure the services of this elite attacker while the Gunners fade away into nothingness, still in possession of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil, both of whom need to replaced by guys exactly like Ziyech.

It’s an unfortunate situation to be in, especially after seeing so many other affordable targets land at other clubs that, pardon my “elitism,” aren’t on my club’s level.

we miss out on a lot of players in transfer windows, but if we do end up missing out on Ziyech, he will have to rank among the worst of the bunch.
