Arsenal have to sign Kieran Tierney. If they miss out on him as well, then this window has been a complete and utter waste of everyone’s time.

Arsenal are going to start signing new players this week, with the budget in place and with Edu joining the team, but for some players, the damage has been done, they’ve signed with other clubs, and the Gunners inability to operate has cost them.

The list of missed opportunities is long and, in many ways, tragic, and more names keep getting added to that list. Names like Leandro Trossard, Joan Jordan and Joachim Andersen may not fill fans with wonder and awe, but these are guys that were well within our budget and at areas of significant need.

All have gone to clubs that are below our own. Leaving the Gunners grasping at the same straw—Wilfried Zaha, and the ridiculous fee we would have to pay to actually secure his services.

But there are always new and exciting links, right? You miss out on one guy, you get the next, it’s that simple. Kieran Tierney looked to be that guy, but after submitting a time-wasting £15m bid, knowing that Celtic wanted £25m, nothing has happened.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There have been no increased bids, and in the meantime, Napoli have nipped in and looked to heist the move away from us, offering what would undoubtedly be an acceptable bid after seeing our beloved Gunners stall yet again when faced with a £5-10m difference in price.

Now, like I said, with some of these guys, I get annoyed and I linger over them, but then I inevitably move on. Trossard sucked to miss out on, as he was so cheap, and Joachim Andersen would have been the perfect solution, but there are other names out there that I can get excited about.

For needing Tierney so badly, it’s shocking how little urgency the Gunners are showing to get him. Especially seeing as how there aren’t many other options out there. If Napoli do get him, Faouzi Ghoulam becomes an option, but his price looks to be even more than Tierney’s and other clubs are already barking after him.

Tierney isn’t a miss that you simply look past and try to move on from. He’s a necessity. We don’t have a leftback, and unlike wingers, you kind of have to have a leftback. So the only solution here is to not miss out on him.
