Arsenal: Alvaro Morata transfer madness has to ignite something
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal need to make good on some sales this summer. If Chelsea can sell Alvaro Morata for £58m, then there are no excuses left.
Arsenal have a ton of talented players that they need to offload this summer, but for as much as we want them to just leave, we still should expect a fair price out of them, and if there is one thing I’ve learned about the Gunners, it’s that they have a tremendous inability to get fair prices.
Serge Gnabry for £5m is probably the most ridiculous of them all. I want to go on a tirade just having to think about it again. But there will be many more to come, I’m sure. Apparently they can’t even sell Mesut Ozil because the situation is “too difficult.”
Meanwhile, Shkodran Mustafi is still in his prime years and could fetch a handsome fee and Henrikh Mkhitaryan‘s international acclaim should bring in a good fee as well. But the past has shown us that we shouldn’t hope for much. This club just doesn’t do sales well.
And then Chelsea went and sold Alvaro Morata, one of the biggest flops to touch down in England, for £58m.

£58m.
It is absolutely insane that Chelsea sold Alvaro Morata for more than what Arsenal paid to buy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. I get that the guy is only 26 years old, but he’s been just as big of a failure as Mustafi, who’s 27 and apparently unsellable.
I don’t know what Chelsea do, or what Liverpool do, to drum up the value on their players, but it’s clear that it can be done. It’s clear that the inflation of playing in the Premier League should extend to the Emirates to, this club just needs to tap into it. To find the well of this elusive resource and milk it for all it’s worth.
I am so, so frustrated that Chelsea were able to pull off a sale that would provide them with enough money to sign about three of Arsenal’s targets. And after selling Eden Hazard too, they are about to finish this summer in the green no matter who they sign.
But I also have hope, somehow. Hope that, if Chelsea can do it, maybe we can too. Maybe, somehow, the Gunners can find the value in their talented players and convince other teams to see it too. We really need a boost and a nice, healthy sale would work wonders in that department.
