Arsenal can’t get one, so they go for the other. It’s been a back and forth between Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser all summer, but there’s more to life.

Arsenal have been tied to so many names over the past few months that it’s nauseating, but the two names that have shown up more than any others are Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser. Two proven Premier League talents destined for a team better than their current mid-to-lower-table set-up.

When the club is pursuing one, the other fades away. When that one gets out of reach, they go after the other, and vice versa. It’s an ongoing and rather annoying process that has me wondering if the Arsenal chiefs are even aware of how much else is going on out there besides these too.

The reason why all these names being linked are so nauseating is because none of them end up at the club. Ever. Which sets the standard of wondering why Fraser or Zaha would be any different, but it also leaves me wondering if the Gunners are so obsessed with getting one of these two that everyone else takes a back seat.

I don’t want to go through the list of names of players we’ve missed out on again. I really don’t. I feel inclined to, but I won’t.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Suffice to say so many players we’ve missed out on could have provided a much simpler, intelligent solution to the winger problem that doesn’t involve haggling over prices that are clearly out of our range (Zaha) or for players that apparently aren’t for sale (Fraser).

Not just that, but the wings aren’t even the biggest problem this club is facing, though you wouldn’t know it from all the links thus far into the summer. Of the 15 or so players that have been linked to a move to the Emirates, at least 10 of them are wingers. Yet our leftback situation remains in tumult and our central defense is a mess that shockingly looks to be the lowest priority of all.

I know I’m not the only one concerned with the complete lack of speculation in the center of the defense, and the deteriorating state of the Kieran Tierney rumors. All the while, annoying rumors continue to float about regarding Fraser and Zaha.

Forget about these two. Let them stick it out at their current digs and go find other, more sensible solutions. I’m sick of rotating rumors between two players who look to be further from the realm of possibility each time their name pops up.
