Arsenal: Can we laugh about Kieran Tierney failure yet?
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal can’t get anything done this summer. Even guys that looked sure-fire like Kieran Tierney have fallen flat and at this point, I’m ready to laugh my arse off.
Alright, so, there are certain things that us Arsenal fans are just used to. One of those things is a deal falling through. It happens to every team out there, but it manages to happen to Arsenal more than any other club and sometimes you just have to laugh about it or you’d hurt yourself (accidentally or on purpose).
This summer may take the cake though. The Gunners hit the ground running at the start, with about ten names being linked to the club, all within our budget, save Wilfried Zaha, who isn’t in anyone’s budget.
Yet here we are a month and some change after the start of the transfer window and only Wilfried Zaha remains linked to the club. Everyone else has fallen away and disappeared except the only guy outside of our budget.
And now, the sure-fire solution at a needed position, Kieran Tierney, has fallen flat on its face as well, with the Gunners proving too flaccid to get the deal done.

I’m laughing. Not like a “haha, this is funny” kind of laugh, though at this point it’s f***ing hilarious, but in more of a “sad clown, woe is me” laugh. Because literally nothing is getting done and it feels like nothing will ever get done.
The thing with Kieran Tierney is that it was undeniably believable. It was widely reported as nearly done, it was picking up steam, everyone seemed on board, and the price tag, while not at the original £15m bid range, was only £25m. Which is absolutely in our budget. Yet we couldn’t even get that done.
This is a guy that we absolutely needed. He isn’t a luxury. We don’t have a leftback and Unai Emery needs a leftback to utilize his four-back set that he undoubtedly wants to get back to.
Yet we can’t get it done. We can’t sign necessary players within our budget, which gives such a feeling of utter hopelessness that, again, all I can do is laugh. And I recommend you do the same or you’re at risk of a hernia.
This deal could still get done. Maybe the Gunners are doing some math and figuring things out. But damn, even David Ornstein commented on it being dead.
