Arsenal: Marc Overmars is officially making us look stupid
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have given up on Hakim Ziyech apparently, and Marc Overmars over at Ajax is rubbing our faces in our own stupidity. This is fun.
Arsenal have inexplicably given up on signing Hakim Ziyech, who would could get for cheaper than we bid for Wilfried Zaha. Ziyech was among the top goal scorers in all of Europe last year, and he did it at the Champions League level as well, proving that he isn’t just a Erividisie blip.
For just £35m, the Gunners could sign this guy, who has also professed his desire to play at the Emirates, where he could walk right into the first team and be an immediate sensation, because even if you cut his goal production from the Netherlands in half, he’d still be a top-tier performer.
And Marc Overmars is remind us how stupid we already look for out dwindling interest in the Moroccan winger. Overmars has already pointed out that Ziyech can leave the club, and that he needs the next step up.
Now, Overmars has said that the Gunners should sell Mesut Ozil and cut the price of Ziyech in half. It’s such a simple solution that even Sporting Directors on other teams are point out how much we are screwing the pooch.

Ironically, Ziyech cited Mesut Ozil as an idol of his, which adds to the sensation of him replacing his idol, and the added motivation that would give Ziyech to be at his absolute best. But no, not Arsenal, they’re too busy carrying Wilfried Zaha’s coattails.
It doesn’t make any sense why we would give up on Ziyech so soon, which is what Overmars is saying. He’s such a clear solution. I’ve honestly never seen it where someone else is asking us why we aren’t buying their player. It’s embarrassing.
The good news is that it might not be over. Kieran Tierney has given me fresh hope that the Gunners can meet asking prices, but maybe they’re just hanging around, undershooting with bids until they absolutely must hit the asking price. Even David Ornstein said that all had gone quiet with Tierney before the improved bid came.
That means that the same can and should happen with Ziyech. There’s still time, and clearly he’s still aiming for the Emirates, so let’s try to stay optimistic.
Still, this is ridiculous. Overmars is trying to hook us up from Ajax and we’re too… what’s the word… blinded to see it.
