Arsenal are lining up a move for Gremio winger Everton Soares, which hopefully means that we can finally stop talking about Wilfried Zaha.

Arsenal‘s winger situation has been the talk of the summer, stealing the spotlight from the true need at centerback. Far too many players have passed through the transfer rumor mill and been deposited out the other side, nowhere near being done. Wilfried Zaha takes the cake for most unbelievable, yet most persistent, while Everton Soares wins the “most like to happen” award.

The prize? Ideally, if we sign Everton Soares, we won’t have to hear about Zaha anymore. Because the need will no longer be there.

Wilfried Zaha’s rumor has been an unnecessary pest all summer. With his valuation rising from £80m to £100m, and the Gunners reportedly only tabling an offer for £40m, the conversation should have been over but “subtle hints” from two of the three necessary parties have lead to continued headlines.

The only party that isn’t playing into the circus is Crystal Palace, who have been as clear as can be. He isn’t for sale.

You’d think that would be the end of the story, but so long as the “need” is still there, it will never be the end of the story. That just isn’t how things work. Which is just another reason why I’m so unbelievably excited for the potential signing of Gremio winger Everton Soares.

The excitement is already there for anyone that watched him drive Brazil to the Copa American title. He filled in for a missing Neymar and did fantastic with it, proving that he may well be the next big thing out of the South American footballing superstate.

Double up the excitement because if any club in the world is going to have pole position to land this guy, it’s going to be the club that just hired Brazil’s Sporting Director as their own, thus having a prebuilt connection to anything out of Brazil for the foreseeable future.

And then there’s the matter of price. The only hesitation, since apparently £35m was too much for Hakim Ziyech, but £36m for Everton Soares is just fine. Of course, if it comes down to add-ons, that may be the difference.
