Arsenal are reportedly looking to give Matteo Guendouzi a contract extension and a raise, and I just want to know if that extension can be good for forever.

I don’t think we can talk about Matteo Guendouzi enough, so I’m going to talk about him some more, since he just hit the news again. Supposedly Arsenal are preparing to up his current contract by giving him a raise and an extension and that’s swell and all, but any finite amount of years on that contract is too few.

Because Guendouzi needs to be a Gunner forever.

For real though, when you think about what he did, it just doesn’t happen that often. And it’s not just because he is immensely talented and intelligent. It’s also because he walked into the perfect situation to prove himself to the world. He proved himself so well that by the midway point in the season, PSG were reportedly ready to drop £60m to bring him back to France.

£60m would not have been enough. Because, like the amount of years on his contract, any finite number of pounds wouldn’t be enough.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit excessive.

Really though, who else do you know that has come from somewhere as low as Ligue 2 as an 18-year-old and made such an immediate impact in the Premier League? I mean, the dude was our only good player through the first two match-ups of the season against Manchester City and Chelsea.

Still, what makes him the most impressive was how much improvement he showed throughout the course of the year. He went from being an active defensive midfielder, to a driving box-to-box midfielder, and added excellent passing and positional awareness as the season went on.

He was improving on a weekly basis.

And yeah, there were dips in his development, just like every other human being in every other walk of life ever. But by the end of the year, now just 19, he still stands as our most exciting player. So much so that I just want to know how we can ensure that he gets into that starting XI.

It looks like he will have to beat out either Lucas Torreira or Granit Xhaka, but as we learned last season, he is capable of anything and everything.

So yeah, go ahead and cross out whatever amount of years are on that contract and replace it with ∞.
