Arsenal Transfers: Grading all 6 summer purchases

2. Kieran Tierney — A+
When you already have two leftbacks on the team, it may not stand out as a top priority to get another. In fact, I’d wager that if Arsene Wenger were still in charge, he absolutely wouldn’t have. He’d have trusted Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac and the defense would have suffered.

This new regime took a different approach. They spent all summer pursuing Kieran Tierney, lowballing Celtic with bids far under the asking price and driving all of us fans completely batty, but in the end, they were able to secure the deal, piss off half of Scotland, and solve a major crisis on the club.
This is the perfect deal. The price paid (around £25m) is so reasonable it’s almost unbelievable and the necessity of the move trumps any potential down side. It’s one of those rare moves where we can’t have any complaints. Maybe it could have been done sooner, but I understand the impetus to try to land a bargain, even if the original price was already a bargain. In the end though, the big question, and really the only question, that needs to be asked is “Did they get the deal done?”
Arsenal did. They landed Kieran Tierney, he’s going to be a huge hit on the left hand side, and this is just another perfect purchase of a spectacular summer.
Finally, our last move of the summer.
