Arsenal: How can anyone possibly naysay the summer transfer business?
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal fans are tough to please, but even most of them were satiated by this summer’s business. Except some. And to those some, I want to know: How?
The first thing I saw when I got on Twitter yesterday morning was an Arsenal fan complaining about the business we conducted this summer. Suddenly, Alex Iwobi was unsellable, Nicolas Pepe was a flop and David Luiz was a waste of time and resources. Even Dani Ceballos seemed forgotten about.
I ignored it, as we all should, but then I started to see more tweets, and even an article from a certain publication that did the same: It questioned why everyone was so happy about the Gunners’ transfer business this summer.
Let me go ahead and answer why everyone is so happy about it: Because it was f***ing fantastic. On a minuscule budget with literally no hope for any sort of “injection,” the brain trust here at the Emirates nailed every single position of need like had never been done in the past decade at least.
It ranks as undoubtedly the best transfer window in recent memory. For starters, simply because every single need was addressed: Winger, midfield, centerback, leftback. Present and future. It was all taken care of. We got better at every single position.

For those that are solely interested in us spending money, we broke the club transfer record. For those that worried about the defense, we got a Premier League champion centerback and a stalwart centerback for the future.
For those worried about the midfield, and still doubting Granit Xhaka, Dani Ceballos is here to be the new Santi Cazorla.
And the growing problem at leftback was solved before it could become a serious problem with one of the best young leftbacks in the world.
But don’t worry, there are still fans out there who will say it wasn’t enough. Or that it was done wrong. I never knew how many Alex Iwobi fans were out there. All these people who berate him for not being good enough are now whining that we sold him.
Let me tell you, £40m for Alex Iwobi is fantastic business for all parties. It’s the perfect deal. And yeah, it hurts. He’s been at the club 15 years. That really stings. But you have to make practical decisions, and that’s what this was.
So do the world a favor. If you see someone complaining at all about the summer transfer window. Kindly tell them to stuff it. Or not so kindly. Dealer’s choice.
