Central Midfield

6.0. Struggled a lot in the first half, failing to move Arsenal forward against the high press, especially from goal kicks. Improved, like many of his teammates in the second half, and was defensively combative against Miguel Almiron, despite his yellow card in the second half with a late crunch on the Newcastle man. Still, Matteo Guendouzi has now surpassed him and Dani Ceballos or Lucas Torreira could also push him in the starting XI.. CM. Arsenal. GRANIT XHAKA

CM. Arsenal. MATTEO GUENDOUZI. 7.5. Crucial in the second half, always looking to play forwards with accuracy and control. Looked a little lost in the first half, losing his position and not offering options to the centre-halves to play forwards, but improved massively after the break — it is no coincidence that Arsenal as a whole improved in the second half as well.

7.0. Some lovely touches here and there, bursting away from defenders with speed and intensity. The consistency is not there, the simple things are not executed well, but the talent is undeniable. Is he ready to start every week? No. But is he a talented young player who should be afforded more opportunity as the season progresses? Absolutely.. CM. Arsenal. JOE WILLOCK
