Arsenal have had their fair share of dynamic duos and striker combinations, but what we have now is getting even better, and it was already pretty damn good.

I don’t think there’s any question that the best striking pair in the world of football is happily at ArsenalPierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Few other teams have invested in having two elite strikers that so compliment each other.

Of course, this has been helped on by the two becoming best friends in the process. Still, they gelled within weeks of the two uniting. Aubameyang was originally seen as a potential snafu in Lacazette’s career, a replacement, perhaps, but things changed drastically, and quickly.

And they culminated in Aubameyang passing up a penalty that would have notched him a hat trick and letting Lacazette take it instead, to get off of his goalless slide.

From that moment, it was settled. These two were something special. They were the best in the world and believe it or not, they are getting even better the longer that they are together.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I’ve said this countless times, but I usually don’t put much credence in what players say. That is steadily changing in the Unai Emery era, especially because the people that are speaking are some one the highest profile players we have. Guys that have been around the block and back and have won things. Lots of things.

Yesterday, headlines were raving about what Aubameyang and Lacazette both had to say. And both said essentially the same thing, in different words—that things are getting much better at the club, and more specifically, with the two strikers.

Aubameyang said that the Gunners would be surprise title contenders, which ties into their ability to score goals, and Lacazette said that the Premier League has yet to see the best of him. Which has me all tingly with excitement, because to think that the elite mentality of our strikers can get even better is just too amazing to not drool over. Not to mention the fact that they are more outspoken about their belief in what is happening here.

That’s helped on by how much control they have over the situation. They drove this team last year, and they will drive it again this year, and they will continue to improve as they do so, also because there is so much general improvement going on around them.
