Arsenal: Who DOESN’T instantly connect with Alexandre Lacazette?
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal newbie Nicolas Pepe has claimed that he and Alexandre Lacazette can already find each other with their eyes closed. Who can’t, though?
Nicolas Pepe has only been at Arsenal for a month, but he’s already jiving with Alexandre Lacazette, audaciously claiming that he and Laca can find each other on the pitch with their eyes closed.
Which is wonderful to hear, seeing as how we have yet to really unleash these two on the pitch at the same time. So it’s kind of breaching on “secret weapon” territory, if you really want to get down to it.
Team chemistry is one of those things you don’t actively think about until you see it and the magic it can create. At Arsenal for instance, seeing the connection between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette and how they literally need each other to celebrate goals was a nice reminder that we have some killer chemistry.
And doesn’t it always seem to center on Alexandre Lacazette? When Aubameyang arrived, initially flagged as a potential obstacle for Lacazette, they instead became best friends.

Matteo Guendouzi, the young French phenom, tagged two guys as his “big brothers” at the club. Those two guys were Aubameyang and… Lacazette.
Now, with just one full match under his belt, Pepe is singing the praises of Lacazette as well. It’s at the point where Lacazette should just spearhead the onboarding of every single player because he clearly knows how to connect with new arrivals.
I know I have been staunchly advocating for Granit Xhaka to be the team captain, and I still love the idea, but I can’t help but think that a guy that carries such amicability as Lacazette would be an excellent addition to the captaincy team, since Unai Emery prefers having multiple captains rather than just one.
And, on the really bright side, the biggest chemistry we see now comes from our three attackers—Pepe, Lacazette and Aubameyang. And they haven’t even been deployed together yet. You can’t have a cohesive attack with an understanding between those doing the attacking. We already saw that cohesion between our striking brothers and now Pepe is adding another facet to it.
Not to mention that Auba has already talked up this front three playing together.
All in all, this is shaping up to be an attack that can absolutely wreck opposing defenses. And Lacazette is at the center of it all.
