Arsenal fans are losing their minds over Granit Xhaka’s “we should be happy with one point” comments, but how can you argue with him?

Arsenal fans are known for being quick to light their torches, especially when Granit Xhaka is involved, and the media is always going to exploit that little schism, which they have again following the draw to Watford.

Granit Xhaka, the club captain, was taken incredibly out of context when he spoke after the match, maligning a second half where “everything went wrong” and expressing the sentiment that “we should be happy with one point.”

Of course, the spinning this as “Granit Xhaka thinks one point is okay.” And on social media, Arsenal fans are losing their minds yet again, calling for Xhaka to be sacked, fired, sold, traded, exiled, whatever you want to call it, so long as he isn’t at the club any longer.

But what Xhaka was actually saying was that the club should be happy with one point after how poorly they played.

Who’s going to argue with that? And oh, by the way, people say that all the time. It’s an incredibly common expression that you hear after a team underperforms and still manages to squeeze a point out of it.

What makes this time different is that the Gunners were 2-0 up before succumbing to a draw. And maybe that’s where people take offense, but let’s be honest, as far as Granit Xhaka is concerned, they’re always looking for an excuse to point a finger and get angry at someone they don’t like.

It’s not like Xhaka came out before the match and said “one point would be great.” Nothing of the sort. That would have been a red flag. What Xhaka said was a criticism of his team and their inability to their ridiculous inabilities in the second half. Literally two defensive mistakes let the whole team down and they were unable to answer back.

In isolation, should we be happy with a point? Of course not. Don’t be stupid. But after being out-shot 31-7 and getting completely embarrassed in one of the most one-sided second halves in recent memory, should we be happy with one point? Absolutely. Because that’s one more than we deserved.
